
Policy dialogueTeaching Studies in Brazil: Evaluation and Contributions to the FieldFrom 20 – 22 December 2011 a policy dialogue on teaching African history in Brazil has been organized by the Center for African and Oriental Studies (CEAO) in Salvador de Bahia. This workshop was a follow-up workshop of the international policy dialogue that took place in Sao Paulo in September 2009. The aim of the policy dialogue was to discuss strategies to influence policy makers as well as to provide training, assistance and support to teachers and other professionals interested in teaching African history.
International conference “Gender, Climate Change and Natural Disasters in the Global South: Development Threats in the 21st Century. Opportunities for Collaboration and Capacity Building”From 10-11 November a Policy Dialogue took place entitled “Gender, Climate Change and Natural Disasters in the Global South: Development Threats in the 21st Century – Opportunities for Collaboration and Capacity Building”. The workshop was organized by the Regional Coordinating Unit of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies, University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica. The Meeting was attended by a multi-disciplinary group of participants coming from Guam, Suriname, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica. The participants were representative of a diverse professional grouping, consisting of scientists, journalists, community-based organisations, policymakers and regional and international organisations.
Higher Education in the Global SouthFrom 6-7 October an international policy dialogue about the contribution of higher education to political, social and economic development in the Global South took place in Mexico City. The dialogue was organized by FLACSO, the Latin American Faculty for Social Sciences. More than thirty scholars and policy makers attended the workshop.
